2 Corinthians 13:5— "Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test.

This verse is a sharp, personal call to introspection. Paul isn't asking us to glance at our spiritual lives casually; he's challenging us to conduct a serious, honest audit of our hearts. The word "examine" is often used in the context of testing metals to see if they are genuine or counterfeit. Are we truly living as authentic followers of Christ, or just going through the motions?

The central question he poses is: "Do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?" This is the core of the Christian faith—Christ residing within us by the power of the Holy Spirit. His presence should transform everything: our attitudes, our actions, our priorities, and our peace.

If we look closely and don't see the evidence of His work—a growing love for God and others, a desire for holiness, an aversion to sin, and reliance on His strength—it's a sign that we may be failing the test. This isn't meant to bring condemnation, but rather a powerful, loving correction. It's an invitation to check our foundation.

Today's Challenge: Take a moment to sit quietly with this verse. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the true state of your heart. Are you in the faith? Is the life of Christ evident in you? If not, do not despair. Acknowledge where you are, repent, and invite Him to take full control. The goal of this self-examination is not to find fault, but to ensure that we are securely rooted in Him, living a life that reflects His indwelling presence.

In other words, are we walking in the Spirit's control, or are we walking in the flesh?

Father, assist us in submitting to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We appreciate that our salvation is assured; however, we seek assistance in the sanctification process in our daily conduct. May we do as the old hymn states: I Surrender All! In Jesus' name, Amen.
