“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” James 4:8
When you hear ‘inching,’ you might think of sluggish movement or worms. The phrase “inching toward God” suggests slow progress, but the Bible’s invitation is about the direction and heart, not speed.
We
often feel a gap between our busy lives and God's holiness, thinking we must first clean up or act righteously. In reality, Jesus has already bridged that gap; His shed blood opened the way into God's presence.
James 4:8's command invites us: "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." It's a two-way movement—when we sincerely approach Him, He responds strongly. This inward draw isn't physical but heartfelt, involving:
Humility: Recognizing our need for Him, releasing self-reliance and pride.
Repentance: Turning from sins and distractions, purifying our hearts.
Faith: Believing He exists and rewards those who seek Him diligently.
Your daily walk might seem slow, but each act of obedience, prayer, and reading His Word is a step forward. Don't despise small beginnings; the Lord rejoices to see the work start.
He is a near, present reality, waiting for you to turn your heart toward Him.
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise to draw near when we draw near to You. Help us to be humble and open, turning from distractions and seeking You through prayer and Your Word. Fill us with Your presence and strength as we step toward You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
