“Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.” — Psalms 90:1
This prayer verse, attributed to Moses, reminds us of God's eternal nature and our fleeting lives, emphasizing that true security and rest are only in Him, our constant refuge.
Life is a journey of seeking a place to belong, safety, rest, and consistency. The irony for the Israelites in the wilderness, likely written by Moses, was that they had no permanent home, living in tents and moving under God's guidance. Yet, Moses declares that God was their dwelling place forever—from Abraham onward.
In a world full of change and uncertainty, this verse reminds us that God is our eternal home. While our lives are brief, like grass that flourishes then fades, God is "from everlasting to everlasting,” with no beginning or end, unaffected by time.
Making God your dwelling place means abiding in His presence, trusting His love, and finding security in His character rather than in temporary circumstances or abilities. When overwhelmed, we have a permanent sanctuary for peace and assurance. He is our refuge, a secure foundation amidst life's troubles.
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are our eternal refuge. In a world of change, You remain the same. Help us find rest in You, not in worldly things. Teach us to number our days for wisdom, that we may use our time to glorify You. Satisfy us with Your love each morning, so we rejoice always. In Jesus' name, Amen.
“The soul of man, in its eagle spring, will rest with nothing short of the Rock of Ages. Its ancestral halls are the halls of Heaven. Its munitions of ricks are the attributes of God. The sweep of its majestic flight is Eternity! “lord, Thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.”—Macduff
