The story recounts the tale of a missionary family who paused for lunch during a safari. While the children played, the father suddenly shouted to his son, “Drop down!” and the son immediately obeyed. Those accompanying them were stunned to discover that a venomous snake was slithering down the tree, poised to strike the child, which would have meant certain death if the snake had bitten him. Only the father noticed the snake.

Everyone present was astonished by the boy's swift reaction to his father’s command. The father described the enduring love shared between him and his son, which stemmed from their mutual trust. The young boy did not hesitate when his father issued the command; he inherently trusted his father and reacted accordingly. Likewise, the father anticipated that his son would respond appropriately to his directive.

In John 15:4, Jesus instructs us to “Abide in Me, and I in you.” God wants us to dwell in Jesus. For some, this abiding is more natural than for others. Although it can be challenging to discern God's plans for us, we can trust that He will provide us with everything we need to fulfill His commands. Abiding begins with trust and culminates in complete rest.
