The Psalmist writes in Psalm 139:7-8— “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!”
At times, we all see clear signs of God’s presence. Yet, evil in the world makes many question His existence, whether softly or urgently. If you're there, you're not alone—figures like Abraham, Moses, and Thomas also doubted.
When Jesus prepared his disciples for his departure, he assured them with a powerful promise: “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20). This promise was not only a comfort for his followers but also for you personally. During life’s chaotic, noisy, and sometimes painful moments, it may seem like God is distant or silent. However, Christian faith affirms that God is always with you, even when His presence is not felt.
Think of it as a friend supporting you through tough times, even from afar. The Christian faith states God's presence is real, with the Holy Spirit dwelling within you, making God's nearness a daily reality. Simply become aware of His presence.
Doubt is not the opposite of faith; it is part of the journey toward a deeper, more mature faith. Bring your doubts to Jesus, as Thomas did. You might find that God meets you there with compassion and understanding (John 20:27). Rather than disqualifying you, your doubt can become a turning point—an opportunity to grow, trust, and persevere. Instead of feeding your doubt with the enemy's lies, feed your faith with the truth of God's Word (Romans 10:17). Reflect on the moments in your life when God has been faithful. Remember the times He has brought you through before, and trust that He will do it again.
Dear God, I sometimes feel distant and doubt your presence amid life's chaos. I'd like to ask you to meet me in this uncertainty, help me trust your promise to be with me, and give me the courage to seek you honestly. Please remind me of your faithfulness during doubt, strengthen my faith, and let my struggles deepen my relationship with you. Amen.
With ears to hear,
Gene
