It feels like we're hearing Paul's words more now than ever: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
Yesterday, I spoke from John 14:1-14, emphasizing that Jesus is our way, truth, and life—the antidote to fear. With the ongoing political season, many feel anxious, as if carrying a heavy backpack that weighs down our hearts and minds. We try to handle every scenario and 'what if' on our own. The Greek for "anxiety" means being pulled in multiple directions, capturing the distraction and fragmentation worry causes.
Today's scripture invites us to cast our anxiety on God, who cares for us and is a strong refuge. 'Cast' implies deliberately letting go of burdens, like throwing a heavy object onto a solid surface. God doesn't just ask us to stop worrying; He invites us to entrust our specific burdens to Him, who is capable of handling what is too heavy for us.
Next time anxious thoughts arise, turn them into prayer. Acknowledge them, then give them to your Heavenly Father. Trust Him with your burdens to receive His peace.
Heavenly Father, my heart is troubled, and my mind races with worries. I try to carry burdens You never meant for me. Today, I cast all my anxiety onto You, for You care deeply. Help me trust Your provision and sovereignty, so I can find peace in relying on You. Amen.
Still casting,
Gene
Because Life Begins at Calvary!
