The prophet Isaiah starts chapter 60 in verse one, stating—"Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you".
Isaiah calls God's people to rise from exile and despair, as the Lord's glory—a divine light—dawns like the sunrise, signifying new beginnings.
While originally given to Israel, this prophecy finds its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus, the true light of the world. In the New Testament, believers are called to reflect His light. Jesus told His followers, "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). This isn't our own light but Christ’s radiance shining in and through us.
This verse invites and commands us, promising that God's glory is present and urging us to respond. We must 'arise' from complacency and 'shine' by reflecting God's goodness and truth.
Let me share three ways to do this today, and with each new day, we face our daily tasks.
Embrace the light. Recognize that sin, doubt, and fear's darkness has no hold on you, because Jesus's light has come.
Rise up. Don't remain in the past or discouragement. When you see God's light, wake up, stand tall, and pursue His purpose for you.
Reflect His glory. Your life mirrors Jesus' light to a dark world. Seek ways to let His love and character shine through your words and actions today.
Heavenly Father, thank you for being the light that dispels darkness and for Your glory rising upon me through Jesus. Forgive me for letting fear dim that light. Help me to arise with purpose and shine brightly for You, drawing others to Your truth, in the name of Jesus, Amen.
Seeking to be a godly Reflector,
Gene
