I've heard it said that God knows our tendencey to forget. That's why He issistes that His people be intentional about recalling His goodness. He also recognizes that remember benefits us.
In Deuteronomy 7:17-19, we read --17 “If you say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I. How can I dispossess them?’ 18 you shall not be afraid of them but you shall remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt, 19 the great trials that your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which the Lord your God brought you out. So will the Lord your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.
Israel was called to remember God’s goodness and power whenever they faced fear. We also need that reminder to recall God's faithfulness when fears arise in our lives. When facing seemingly impossible challenges, like the Israelites before us, fear can take hold. But God's command is to remember His past deeds, such as the Exodus, instead of relying on our own strength.
Focusing on challenges can sometimes make us forget how truly great God is. Reflecting on His past kindnesses reminds us that our hope can be renewed and helps us to direct our attention back to God. The same God who has helped us before is still here and ready to work against our current fears.
So, what challenges are you facing today?
Which giants are you concentrating on rather than God?
Reflect on a moment when God demonstrated His goodness to you previously. Keep in mind that He is still capable of doing the same again!
Heavenly Father, thank you for your goodness and faithfulness to us. Help us remember your power and overcome our fears. Strengthen our walk of faith with you, and grant us the strength to face our current challenges, trusting in your constant wisdom and strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Seeking to remember,
Gene
