“For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

—Colossians 3:3

In Christ, a profound transformation has occurred. Paul says we have "died"—not physically, but spiritually—separating from our old, sin-driven life and the world's values. Our old self was crucified with Christ; it no longer controls us.

The verse's second part offers assurance: "your life is hidden with Christ in God."

Notice our life is Hidden, not Lost. This "hidden" life means we're secure and protected, not invisible or irrelevant. Our spiritual life is "locked" with Christ in God, the safest place in the universe. No evil force, temptation, or trial can snatch us from this divine shelter.

We have a new identity that may be misunderstood by the world; our true glory isn't visible yet. We may seem ordinary, facing the same storms as others. But our core identity is no longer based on achievements, failures, or opinions, but in Christ. When God the Father sees us, He sees us in His Son's perfection.

We have A Call to Live Differently, based on the truth that our lasting life is secure in heaven. We should focus on things above, not earth (Colossians 3:2). This allows us to walk confidently and peacefully, free from fear and anxiety in a world lacking a secure refuge. Our future is sure and glorious because Christ is our life.

Here are three points to think about this weekend:

  1. Refocus on your security: you're with Christ in God. What worries or fears does this truth ease in your life?
  2. How does knowing about your "hidden" life in Christ affect your view of daily challenges and worldly pressures?

  1. Consider Paul's link between this hidden life and actively "putting to death" earthly sins (Colossians 3:5). In what areas of your life must you live out your new, hidden reality?

Heavenly Father, thank You for the assurance that my life is hidden with Christ in You. Thank You that my old self is dead, and I am secure in Your love. Help me to live in this new identity, focusing on things above and reflecting Your character. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Hidden but NOT LOST,
