"Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you." — Deuteronomy 31:6
Life presents 'giants' and fortified cities—difficult diagnoses, financial crises, conflicts, or stress of the unknown. These challenges can overwhelm, scare, and make us want to retreat.
In our verse, Moses addresses the Israelites as they prepare to enter the Promised Land—a task their ancestors once feared. The command to "be strong and courageous" isn’t about forcing a stiff, stoic independence. Instead, it’s a reminder rooted in a truly reassuring promise: "it is the Lord your God who goes with you." Remember, strength and courage don’t come from within us alone; they are a gift from His constant presence, filling us with confidence and hope.
Courage isn't the absence of fear but the willingness to move forward in faith despite it, because you know who's with you.
"Them" refers to adversaries—problems and fears that seem insurmountable. You need not fear them because the Lord your God goes with you to fight for you.
The promise is personal and everlasting: "He will not leave you or forsake you." This heartfelt covenant assurance extends to all believers today (Hebrews 13:5).
Whenever you're feeling weak, remember you can lean on His strength for comfort and support. If fear ever holds you back, His presence is there to give you the courage to stand tall and face whatever comes your way. Venture into the unknown with confidence, knowing that the Almighty God is always by your side, ready to empower and guide you.
Heavenly Father, I am truly grateful for the comforting reminder in Your Word that You are always by my side. When life's challenges appear and I feel fear creeping in, remind me of Your promise never to leave or forsake me. Please fill my heart with Your strength and courage, so I can stand confidently in faith and face each challenge with hope, knowing that my victory comes from You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Standing on His Promises,
Gene
