Good morning,

I’m back at it in the gym this morning and now with my writing. The church I pastor has heard me speak about change from the very beginning. While we don’t alter our doctrine, our methods can and should change over time.

You’ve probably heard it said that life has three certainties: death, taxes, and change. While many people have accepted the first two, most struggle with the third—change. We often settle into a comfortable routine, and the fear of change arises from the fear of loss, even when that loss pertains to something we never truly valued in the first place.

The story recounts the experience of a counseling patient who despised her job and believed it was ruining her life. Throughout her therapy sessions, however, she seemed completely unwilling to take steps to improve her situation. When the counselor suggested that she look for a new job, she complained that no decent jobs were available in her small town. The counselor then inquired whether she had considered looking for work in the next town, which was only fifteen miles away. She responded that she would need a car to travel that distance, and since she didn’t own one, it wasn’t an option. The counselor proposed a plan for her to purchase an inexpensive car, but she retorted that it wouldn't work because there was no place to park in the neighboring town anyway.

Fear of change often stems from a fear of loss—whether it's the loss of control or something we never truly valued in the first place. If you're struggling with change in your life today, take a moment to bring those fears to the Lord. With faith in His guidance, the frightening change can lead to unexpected blessings.

Joseph Addison wrote: “Our real blessings often appear to us in the shapes of pains, losses, and disappointments; but let us have patience and we soon shall see them in the proper figures.”

Remember the words in 2 Timothy 1:7—“for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Here’s to faith over fear,
