"But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9, ESV).
Friendship and fellowship are often used interchangeably, but differ. Friendship is based on shared interests, while true fellowship involves a mutual connection to Christ. Christian fellowship elevates friendship to its highest form.
Apostle Paul's words in 2 Corinthians 12:9 declare dependence on God and true fellowship. When Paul asked God to remove his "thorn in the flesh," God didn't remove the hardship but gave grace and showed His power through Paul's weakness.
True fellowship isn't about perfect people but a space to reveal imperfections without fear. Confessing struggles allows Christ's power to be perfected in us and our relationships.
Fellowship is where we boast in weaknesses, connect with others who understand our struggles, and share in God's collective strength. Embracing vulnerability deepens friendships into a fellowship that glorifies God and allows Christ's power to rest upon us.
Ask yourself:
How can I transition from superficial conversations to authentic, vulnerable fellowship in my current friendships?
In what area of my life do I feel weakest, and how can sharing this with a trusted friend open the door for Christ's power to be at work in both of our lives?
How can I create a safe space for others to share their weaknesses, so that together we can experience Christ's strength?
God grant us the strength to be biblically vulnerable in our relationships with our brothers and sisters, and to be truly Christlike in them. May we be as described in John 13:35—that all people will know we are Your disciples, “if we have love for one another.”
