Good morning,
Here is today’s Food for Thought!
Due to human sinfulness and the struggles we encounter, many people go through seasons of darkness when everything feels overwhelming. However, our perspective when facing difficulties will determine how we handle those dark days.
From May 11 to August 1, the morning has a unique significance in Barrow, Alaska. Located 330 miles from the Arctic Circle, Barrow is often referred to as "The Real Life Land of the Midnight Sun." During these 83 days, the sun never dips below the horizon.
At times, our lives can feel just as bleak as the darkness in Barrow. During those moments, we often have the opportunity for honest reflection, no matter how heavy it may feel. I remember being told during a challenging period in my teenage years, “Gene, you can either sit around feeling depressed, or you can get up and find something worthwhile to do.”
Our outlook often determines how we navigate difficult times. We can choose to isolate ourselves and long for a different life, or we can look to and rely on the light that God provides, giving us hope for eternity with Him one day. Ultimately, the choice is ours; no one can make that choice for us.
Isaiah tells us this truth in chapter 26:3—“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed of You, because he trusts in You.”
Keep trusting in these dark moments,
Gene
