An elderly grandmother listened as her husband read the Scriptures, mouthing the words along without her Bible. She knew each word by heart. Later, she told her grandson, “In every season of my life, I have understood those words and God in different ways. It will never grow old because He is always more than I can ever discover.”

I read that story and couldn't help but think of David's words in his song in Psalm 145:3—Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

With all the Bible scholars on Facebook, let me remind you that knowing the entire Bible doesn’t mean you've fully understood Him. You might have the answers in a Bible study and be familiar with characters like Daniel, Joseph, Paul, and the disciples. Still, the God of the universe desires to reveal more to us. He aims to speak into our lives. Even living to 100 years, we won’t know Him completely because He is deeper and more mysterious—He is God! As we grow in knowing Him, we hopefully realize that He genuinely seeks a close, personal relationship with us.

We won’t have all our questions about God answered—no single person has all the correct answers, well, except me, of course. (Tongue in cheek) But one thing I do understand is that we are made in His image. However, we are limited, while He is limitless, and He is deeper than anything we could ever imagine or comprehend.

Isaiah declared in Isaiah 55:8-9—For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Our puny human minds will never grasp it all; that is why we must seek Him through the Bible and prayer, so that we can grasp but a portion of His Greatness. Jeremiah reminds us in 33:3—Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not

Dear Heavenly Father, you are infinite, eternal, and more profound than I can ever understand. I am grateful that You graciously reveal Yourself to me in Jesus Christ through Your Spirit. It amazes me that my relationship with You will always be full of new discoveries throughout my life. Please help me find assurance and understanding in this beautiful mystery, which is Christ in me, the hope of eternal glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Still Seeking Him,

Gene
