“You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the Lord will be with you.” — 2 Chronicles 20:17

We often think that “fighting” means “doing.” When a crisis occurs—a health scare, financial worries, or a broken relationship—our immediate reaction is to rush and find a solution. We tend to believe that if we're not actively working, we're not doing enough. However, 2 Chronicles 20:17 gives us a surprising and powerful command: Hold your position and stand firm.

I see three things in holding our position in many of the spiritual battles we face, remember:

The Battle is Not Yours

King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah faced a daunting "great army” that they couldn't defeat on their own. But instead of offering a military plan, God gently reminded them that the battle is His. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, take comfort in knowing that you're not alone—God isn't asking you to summon all your strength; He simply wants you to trust in the One who already has it all under control.

Standing Still is an Action

Remember that "standing still' isn't about being passive or doing nothing. It’s a heartfelt decision to place your hope confidently in God's promises rather than relying solely on your own strength. It truly is an act of reverence and faith-partnership — a tender moment when you choose to stand in prayer and worship rather than succumb to panic.

Face Your “Tomorrow” with Confidence

God gently encouraged Judah to "go out against them" the following day. While He didn't guarantee the enemy would be gone right away, He assured them of His constant presence. So, even if you face tough moments tomorrow, remember you can move forward without fear or worry because the Lord is right there with you.

Today, think about the battles you’re facing and consider resting in God's strength. Embrace your position in worship, and you'll be amazed at how God works on your behalf.

Lord, today I wholeheartedly surrender to Your will for my life and to my tendency to try to control situations. But today I choose to stand confidently on Your promises. Please help me not to be afraid, knowing that You are with me and that the battle is Yours. Amen.

Stand firm, for the battle is already won,
