“The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”

During tough times, it's common for us to seek a quick escape or try to find reasons behind what’s happening. We often look around for solutions, desperately hoping to find a way out ourselves. However, facing hardship can sometimes make us realize just how much is beyond our control.

The Psalmist assures us that trouble may come our way, but he also guides us to find refuge. He reminds us of a special Place and a Person: The Lord is a stronghold. In ancient times, a stronghold was like a high, sturdy rocky fortress that enemies couldn’t reach. When fights broke out in the open valley, people would run to the stronghold for safety and peace of mind.

Take a moment to reflect on what it takes to truly trust Him in that elevated place: "Those who know your name put their trust in you." Knowing God's name means really understanding His holy character, His limitless power, and His consistent faithfulness. When you recognize that His heart is incredibly good, you'll be able to let go of your own fragile understanding and trust Him completely.

While you might not find the exit from your current challenge today, remember that the storm may still be raging around you. Your safety isn't about how strong your situation looks; it's all about finding your refuge in Him. He's never— and will never— abandon anyone who seeks Him. Take comfort in His presence and rest peacefully there today.

Why not begin today to memorize these two verses for battle:

Proverbs 3:5-6

Isaiah 26:3

Lord God, I find my current circumstances to be quite overwhelming, and I acknowledge my temptation to succumb to worry. I ask Your forgiveness for attempting to bear this heavy burden on my own. I elect to divert my focus from the gravity of my challenges and instead direct my gaze upon the grandeur of Your sacred name. I am grateful for Your role as my steadfast fortress and refuge during this difficult time. I firmly anchor my heart in Your promise that You will never abandon nor forsake me. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

In the Grip of His Grace,

Gene
