“Arise, for it is your task, and we are with you; be strong and do it.” — Ezra 10:4

In Ezra 10, Ezra feels overwhelmed by his community's spiritual struggles, kneeling with tears and prayers. Leader Shecaniah encourages him, reminding Ezra that recognizing the problem isn't enough—it’s time for action.

We all encounter times when challenges feel overwhelming. Whether it's a tough conversation we've been putting off, a stubborn habit we'd like to change, or a leadership task that seems bigger than us, these moments can make us hesitate. It's completely natural to feel fear and doubt, but remember, stepping forward even a little can make a difference.

Let me suggest 3 steps toward courageous obedience for our verse:

  1. Arise: Don’t let fear, regret, or paralysis hold you back. Embracing true faith means adopting a posture—both physically and mentally—of standing tall and ready to face the challenges God has entrusted to you.
  2. Be Strong: This strength isn't something you need to create by yourself. It's a divine resilience that grows from trusting in God's power and embracing the supportive community He surrounds you with.
  3. Do It: Don’t wait for perfect conditions or for fear to completely disappear. Remember, courage is about choosing to follow God's guidance even when you're feeling scared. Just take the next step—you've got this!

If I were to add a fourth, it would be a word of encouragement. What makes this message truly special is the phrase, "we are with you." It beautifully reminds us that God rarely asks us to face tough challenges without a support system. More importantly, the Holy Spirit goes ahead of us, walks right beside us, and gives us the power to do whatever He asks. While we have our part to play, He supplies the authority and strength we need. So, don’t hold back—go ahead, stand up, and step forward with confidence.

Heavenly Father, when I face overwhelming challenges, please give me the strength to persevere. Forgive my doubts and fears. I trust that You've equipped me for the responsibilities You've entrusted to me. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, surround me with a caring community, and grant me the courage to step out boldly in obedience today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Forward together in Courageous Obedience,

Gene
